Q: What does Lynbrook FBLA have to offer?
A: Lynbrook FBLA gives students the opportunity to go beyond the classroom and acquire skills that will prove invaluable in the future. With career training, leadership development, and exciting competitions, FBLA offers valuable real-world experience to the leaders of tomorrow.
Q: I’m not interested in business. Can I still join?
A: Of course! FBLA has many opportunities to foster skills that will prove valuable regardless of career choice. There are tons of competitions in a variety of clusters, including math, technology, public speaking, and more. There are also many individual and chapter-wide projects, activities, and events not strictly related to business.
Q: I’ve heard that competitions consist of taking written tests. Is this true?
A: Not entirely. While many competitive events involve hour-long, multiple choice tests, there are many other competitions available that include performance aspects, such as impromptu speaking, case studies, business presentations, role-play, and marketing. Other events revolve around filming videos, creating computer applications, programming computer games, designing websites, and operating virtual businesses. FBLA has something for everyone!
Q: I didn’t get a competitive event. What can I do?
A. Unfortunately, we are limited in the number of competitors in different events that we can have. However, FBLA offers so much more than just competitions! There are a number of individual projects that you can complete and gain recognition for, such as the Champions of Bay and Business Achievement Awards. In addition, the Partnership with Business Project is a chapter-wide project that everyone is welcome to join and participate in. Lynbrook FBLA also has many business tours, socials, fundraisers, workshops, guest speakers, and community service events regularly, so sign up if you are interested. Finally, conferences are not limited to just competitors; there are workshops, dances, and networking opportunities that are valuable and also lots of fun!
Q: How did Lynbrook FBLA start?
A: In 1966, a business teacher named Mr. Enander founded the Lynbrook High School chapter of FBLA to share his passion and vision with students. With this goal at heart, the chapter remained a small organization until a new business teacher, Mr. Gene Longinetti, joined the faculty and oversaw its impressive growth.
As the current adviser of Lynbrook FBLA, Mrs. Andrea Badger has instilled her motivation and advice in our organization, furthering the chapter’s high standards and reputable history. For over 40 years and counting, Lynbrook FBLA has fostered, and will continue to foster, a generation of remarkable business leaders for years to come.
